Famine, trouble, cancer, marital turmoil etc does not come suddenly. It ‘begins’ to come. When it begins to come, we neglect it. It gives us several warning signs but we choose to postpone attention. The warning signs start off very loud, but because of neglect, the volume continues to reduce till we no longer hear. Then the problem grows until it’s like a mountain.
Your marriage didn’t wake up just the other day in problems, it happened over a long time. No spouse just wakes up and says, ‘I am leaving”. They probably started by coming home late, because you neglected that warning sign and continued to quarrel , they might have begun to eat out. Then it grew till you lost them to other people. Getting them back is now a mountain.
You might be sunken deep in debt today; it did not begin like that. Most likely it started off by borrowing food at work, borrowing unnecessary things like clothes and airtime. You most probably thought, ‘what I am doing is bad, I must stop”. But then you said, ‘one more time then I stop’. That one more time captured you into a habit you cannot handle. You are not alone, most people ignore problems thinking that time will solve them. Time will not solve your problems. When they should act now, they prefer temporary comfort to lasting solutions. A wise man said, ‘the pain of regret is more than the pain of discipline’.
I like the way our father God deals with us. Before every flood, there is an ark to be prepared. Before drought there is a Joseph to prepare. Before judgement, there is Jesus to pay the price. Here is the way out “So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways…”2 Chronicles 27:6.
Preparation renders any man mighty to any challenge that can come his/her way. No matter how gifted a sportsman is, if he/she doesn’t prepare, loosing is inevitable. The farmer doesn’t prepare when the rain has finally come. Even the smallest challenges can kill a man they find not prepared. Prepare now what you want your life to be. Write your own obituary today by the way you choose to live. Prepare for retirement, prepare for marriage, prepare for giving birth etc. If you do not prepare, circumstances will overpower you. God always give you enough time to prepare. Take advantage and prepare.
